SUN – Safety Alert ! ! !

The  skin can be harmed by constant sun exposure, whether or not you see a burn. Sunscreens are products combining several ingredients that help prevent the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin. Two types of ultraviolet radiation, UVA and UVB, damage the skin, age it prematurely, and increase your risk of skin cancer.

There’s a myth that summer is the only time to use sunscreen, but in reality, it should be used 365 days a year. Every season though, winter can be cold and snowy, should have sunblock included in a beauty regime.

Although every skin tone and skin type is likely to get discoloration and hyperpigmentation on the skin, dark skin is more likely to get hyperpigmentation on the skin, compared to other skin tones because of the melanin levels that dark skin tones contain.Pigment cells can be stimulated not only by the sun’s bright UV rays, but even by lower doses of ambient and infrared light, emitted by the computer screen or overhead lamp.

The sun also damages the collagen and elastin in our skin. Wearing sunscreen and avoiding sun exposure to your face is the best way to reduce the development of wrinkled, premature aging  skin! It can also reduce the appearance of red veins and blotchiness on your face.

Even when it is cloudy and there isn’t any visible sun or warmth, the sun’s rays can still get through and damage our skin. The sun is the cause of those brown spots that many patients complain about that pop up on our bodies as we age. They are known commonly as “sun spots” or “age spots” and can be avoided by protecting your skin with sunscreen!

The damage we cause our skin now will gradually appear over the next 10 years.  Find a sunscreen that you like and integrate it into your daily routine, just like brushing your teeth. When you are out in the sun for more than two hours, reapply!

The best thing you can do to keep your skin looking youthful is to wear sunscreen. Every. Single. Day.
